The Goose That Laid The Platinum Egg

In providing horrible customer service, a competitor of ours lost an account. That account holder stopped by to see me, and we spent some time working on what we could do at my bank to meet his needs. Honestly I don't feel like it was really "above and beyond" what I do for any client. Yet the client assured me that he felt better to be with my bank than any he'd been with before.

The new client has been so much fun to work with. Really a knowledgeable person who understands the business and it's complexities. Someone with patience, intuition, and a great sense of humor to boot. Clients like that are better than gold. We joke around the office about how easily banks/credit companies throw around the term "platinum"... This guy is someone that I would think is actually deserving of the title. He makes the job fun, and that to me means so much more than a lot of other factors.

In making a client feel the exact opposite of how good service would have made him feel, the other banker really turned out to be the goose that laid the platinum egg. I guess I owe him a thank you. In not doing his job, he has made someone truly appreciate my bank and the job that we do.
